Opatija “Pearl of the Mediterranean”

Opatija

is located on the Kvarner Bay, has a Mediterranean climate and a view of the paradise islands. Known as the pearl of the Adriatic Sea, with its rich history, unparalleled elegance and beauty, Opatija has become one of the most popular coastal cities in Croatia. Due to its mild Mediterranean climate, today it is a place of luxury hotels, former villas and private summer residences that have been transformed into beautiful hotels, wellness centers, congress halls and swimming pools. There is also a wonderful and wide selection of local restaurants offering fresh local delicacies, as well as plenty of music festivals during the summer.

Lungomare promenade

along the coast it stretches 12 km from Voloski through Opatija to Lovran. Take a walk in the evening when the sun is about to set.

One of the oldest and most famous villas in Opatija is Villa Angiolina , which was built in 1844 by Iginio Scarpa, a rich merchant from Rijeka. The park covers almost 4 hectares, and due to the mild climate, 159 plant species that come from the Far East, Australia, South America and other parts of the world live there. Among the many interesting plants that grow in the park is the Japanese camellia, which has become a recognizable symbol of Opatija. Find a bench in the park and slow down your fragrant breath with a view of the sea.

Crkva sv. Jakova

is located directly next to the Lungomare waterfront. Church of St. Jakov’s is the oldest building in Opatija and dates from the 15th century.

Other points of interest in Opatija are the Girl with a Seagull, a sculpture on the waterfront that has become a symbol of the city, and the Fountain of Helios and Selene, which is located in a beautiful park opposite the Imperial Hotel near the Church of St. James.

Visit the picturesque fishing village of Volosko , which is only a few minutes’ walk from the port of Opatija, where you can find many small bars and local restaurants in the port. If you’re feeling energetic, there are numerous alleys that take you a little uphill where there are small taverns tucked away in courtyards with flowers. Due to its mild Mediterranean climate, today it is a place of luxury hotels, former villas and private summer residences that have been converted into beautiful hotels, wellness centers, congress halls and swimming pools. There is also a wonderful and wide selection of local restaurants offering fresh local delicacies, as well as plenty of music festivals during the summer.
